Sabbath + Letter Carrier Food Drive & PF Fair

(there are 3 post today)

Day 2 of a LONG, TIRING, {blessed} weekend.

Sabbath morning:  Children's Ministry... Sabbath School Stuff

Church:  Get up front and talk with Pastor Jim, Emma, & Sydney about how we do family worship in our home.  This is part of a push to encourage our families to take the time to worship with their families.  We are getting different families to share what they do within their home.

Home for a 15 minute changaroo... and some fish crackers shoved in my face...

Back to the church to pick up some awesome girls (Jaime, Natalia, Cierra + fam, and my Em & Sam) to head to the annual Letter Carrier Food Drive collection site.

This is the 3rd year I have done this Community Service Project.

I love it.

But let me just say it is tiring backbreaking work.

I was super proud of my kids.  We arrived at 1:25p.m.  and there was a brief lull in the packing of food.  Only about 7 trucks had come in by 2:15p.m.  I over heard Ted (a man who uses a vacation day to come lead out on this day) say "7 trucks in and just over 70 to come in"

WHAT?

Let me just say that this would be the only lull we would have.
Because truck after truck after truck came in...

and I never stopped again until we signed out at 5:40p.m.  Just over 4 hours after we got there.

My nails were full of black grime... my right knee ached... and my back was killing me.
But I will be there again next year.

It is sick but there is something wonderful about knowing that some of this food will be going to our very own ACS food bank :)

There is something therapeutic about ripping open bags, dumping out food, packing boxes, moving boxes, getting an empty box and starting the whole process over again.

Here are some shots from right before we left (there was no time for photos while working!!!)

the under side of our tables where we shoved the plastic bags and the paper  bags... we had different recycling bins that we took the bags too... they built up super fast!

Loading the boxes...

Just one of the 50 plus bins of food that were loaded, unloaded, loaded, etc...

that is a LOT of food people!
we filled 1 full semi and 1/2 of another!

me {exhausted} at the end of the shift... you can see one of the empty bins to my left.

my Emma... what a trooper!  Worked right beside me all but about 30 minutes!  She kept a smile on her face & encouraged me with her positive outlook!

When we got down to the final couple of bins we signed out & I treated the girls to a sundae at McD's... then it was home to make dinner (6:30)

Worship & Bedtime...

and then I remembered, our clothes for the Pathfinder Fair were dirty from our hard work... they must be washed... then right when I wanted to crash and go to bed...

I remembered... the sashes, the honors....
and I started sewing.

about 40 items on 3 sashes & 1 staff shirt.

my em has been so excited about Pathfinders and she really wanted to not wear a blank sash to the Pathfinder Fair... Sam & I have piles of honors from our 3 years and she had none... so I stayed up until 11:30 to sew on all our patches before hitting the sack.

5 am was gonna come early.

Sunday was the "Longest Day of the Pathfinder Year"
The Pathfinder Fair in Albany.

Depart 6 a.m. in pouring rain.
Fill the Excursion with 8 people.
Drive South 1 hour 20 minutes.
Unload vehicle & trailer.

Do all the Pathfinder stuff, march, watch drill, explore booths, complete in our relay (and take 1st by an entire minute) eat all the yummy food :) sit through lots of talking... and enjoy hanging with our club.
Leave around 5:40p.m. for home.
7p.m. home.

and then an angel came by with this...

and I sat down (after eating almost the entire plate)
and watched the final episode of Survivor...
It was a good night.  After 4 attempts Rob finally did it!

and in other news... Sunday was our last "official event"  we only have a reward activity left.
I think I am going to go sleep now.

p.s.  My hubby is the BEST ever for supporting me & taking care of the younger kids so that I can be involved in the Pathfinder Ministry... it is a huge sacrifice by us... and worth every minute.
