Started like this... and ended... well it ended.

Tuesday I woke up and my sweet little man was dying to wear his new fireman outfit from his cousins...

I always say I like a man in a uniform...

and there was no resisting this little fireman.
Photobucket
SERIOUSLY????
could he be ANY cuter?

Photobucket
"step aside momma I will put that fire out for you..."

Photobucket
"wait, there is something wrong with my button"

Photobucket
"where's the fire? cheese!"
at this point I am speechless with the total cuteness...

anyway... it was some time after this adorable moment that we decided to leave the house and run some errands...
1. mail. check.
2. bank. and a lolli for Jack. check.
3. library. check.
4. sell 6 dozen eggs. check.
5. drive down to Cascade Station to get Sam a new ski coat. check
6. get in car and drive to Target. check
7. go into Target parking lot and realize...
there is a weird looking lump under the little man's shirt...
MY ADORABLE BOY HAS SHOPLIFTED GUM FROM SPORTS AUTHORITY!!!!

So NOT okay. Especially since I had just bought him a piece...

So a little smack to the hand. A major lecture on how little boys don't take things that don't belong to them... especially when they have not paid for them... and a you will go back to the store and pay for this...

(which reminds me of this past Sabbath when he snuck into Emma's room and emptied her piggy bank... and said it was his money... dropped it all into the offering at church... and when we got home realized he had stolen from his sister...)

anyway got a little sidetracked...
back to Target.

Enter Target with screaming child... tears rolling down his face
(I think I had just mentioned that we were going back to that store and he was going to have to pay for the gum with his money... and apologize for stealing...)

I repeat he was SCREAMING... "You're the meanest mommy in the whole world!" over and over. I am trying to ignore the screams, kicks, and tears... and mean hurtful words... as I reply.

"Little boys do NOT take things that don't belong to them. Mommy does not think that type of behavior is okay. Scream all you want because we are still going back there and you WILL pay for that gum... and you will not get to keep it!"

and he says this (with tears rolling) "But I wanted to get it for you momma."

OH MY GOODNESS... where do they learn these things?
I will have you know it didn't work... but I admit it did snag the heart just a bit.

What I was really thinking though... and how lame is this? Please don't let them thing that I am a Walmart Mom whipping up on my poor kiddo... Is that sad or what? Seriously how far had I come from the cute little boy in the fireman outfit just a few hours earlier? To "the police are going to lock him up for shoplifting?"

Thankfully the outburst didn't last the entire 30 minutes we were in there...

But as we headed to the cash register to check out...
he said this "momma, can you buy me some gum?"
Photobucket

"not on your life buddy"
Okay I really didn't say that...
I wanted too... but I did not cave.
instead a little Seinfeld... NO GUM FOR YOU!
and a major test of mom willpower!

Sometimes life lessons are hard to learn. It will be worth it in the end. Russell kept bugging Chloe to give him some of her candy that she bought with her money (and he already ate his). He thinks what's his is his and what's mine is his as well. There was a lesson last night. He took some of her candy without asking. Chloe lost it!! Russell said he would pay her 25 cents for it. That was not good enough. Russell had earned $5 for shoveling a deck earlier that day. The $5 is now Chloe's, that one hurt. I hope he is learning to respect others.
